Thanks for creating this.  I've downloaded it and may try it later.

Before stumbling upon this thread, I also wanted an appropriate VM and so downloaded:

Debian 7 amd64 - VMware appliance, image - download | Virtual Machine IT Service

The console-only appliance was supplied with a default of 512MB of RAM, and I followed all the instructions in the document

but bitbake failed to complete properly.  I increased the amount of RAM in the VM, and then things worked.  The BSP Build document should be edited to specify a minimum amount of RAM required.  Also, it would be good if the BSP Build document were to refer to this thread as that would probably help a lot of people.  I might have simply been lucky to find this thread, myself, but I found it after having the problem of insufficient RAM.  I was building on an Intel i7 with 4 hyperthreading cores.  How much memory would you recommend as a minimum for that?  I had 14GB available, so allocated 8GB to the VM and allowed it to use all the hyperthreading cores (on VM Workstation) and things seemed to work at that point.

Thanks again.  I would encourage Intel to continue updating the SUSE VM, perhaps fixing things for the problems described by user cooler1989 if possible.
